Unbelievable as it may seem, but, The Bus Uncle is one of the viral videos that have been circulating the Internet that has turned into a national sensation.  Based on a report from AP, it occurs in a Hong Kong bus where an older grumpy man gets into some form of verbal argument with a younger bus passenger.

The Bus Uncle viral video was shot by another bus passenger and is entirely in Chinese.  It is the opinion of some of the viewers of The Bus Uncle that the video actually shows the real state of mind of most bus riders in Hong Kong.

The 6-minute viral video which has gained extreme popularity on the Internet actually focuses on what seemed to be a never ending discussion.  Oddly enough, the entire The Bus Uncle viral video begins with the interruption of a simple telephone call which the older man did not appreciate.

Part of the amusing appeal that some viewers have found with The Bus Uncle is that while the older guy kept on yapping his mouth, the younger bus rider showed extreme self-control and patience.

Unfortunately, the old man did not appreciate what happened and began berating the man for interrupting his call.  In Chinese countries, older people are normally referred to as Uncles or Aunts.

Bus Incident Details

The Bus Uncle viral video took place on the upper deck of a Kowloon Motor double decker bus that was travelling on the Yuen Long route in Hong Kong.  The incident happened at about 11:00 in the evening of April 2006.

The young male passenger wearing glasses tapped the shoulder of an older passenger seated in front of him.  He was asking The Bus Uncle to lower his voice while talking on the phone.

In an interview The Bus Uncle said that he was under some stress when he was tapped on the shoulder because he was in an argument with his girlfriend and was calling the Samaritans.

The younger passenger however disputed this and said the older man was merely chatting up friends.  The result of the effort is The Bus Uncle viral video.

  • Roger Chan is the 51-year old who plays The Bus Uncle in the video.  He is a restaurant worker who lives alone but has a girlfriend in Mong Kok.
